Hi, I'm Karlee,
an empathetic therapist with a personal journey that has uniquely prepared me to understand where many of my clients are today. As a teenager, I felt misunderstood and often mislabeled as defiant after experiencing a trauma when I was truly hurting and confused. It was difficult for me to talk about what happened at that time, so I inadvertently communicated my stress through my behaviors. My parents were exhausted with my behaviors. Ultimately, leaving both of us upset & frustrated. That part of my journey fuels my passion for creating a space for youth and their families to feel supported, understood, and connected.
I believe that when clients, including parents, feel genuinely heard, understand their experiences, and have practical tools that work for them, they begin to reclaim control and build confidence. Ultimately, this leads to a higher quality of life with improved relationships, productivity, and resilience.
My authentic perspectives as the “difficult teenager” and as a caregiver, coupled with my professional expertise has prepared me to work well with teens, parents, and families. My approach blends active listening and meaningful processing with psychoeducation and skill building.
In addition to my work with parents and teens, I also work with adult clients seeking support for other concerns, such as anxiety and processing childhood trauma.
Therapeutic Style & Approach
Each client and situation is unique in their own way, so I use an eclectic approach. This means I draw from a variety evidenced based modalities to customize my services to best support my clients when necessary. My experience affords me the ability to quickly adapt to changing needs to ensure services remain productive and effective. My approach focuses on removing blame of self or others in order to focus on healing.
Areas of Interest
While I thoroughly enjoy working with kids, teens, and childless individuals, I am also particularly passionate about working with parents because whether parents like it or not, we are our children's primary teacher and role model for better or for worse. It can be one of the most difficult and also most rewarding job out there. I have been the "troubled teenager," but also the caregiver and they are equally challenging in their own ways in my opinion. I also have first hand experience as to how a parent's behavior can influence their child because I distinctly remember when my parent's changed their approach with me that helped me make better decisions and take constructive action.
Some diagnoses and concerns I can help treat include:
Oppositional and Defiant Behaviors
Anger Management
Childhood Trauma
Bullying
Abuse and Neglect
Sexual Abuse
Parenting and Family Conflict
Eating Disorders
Anxiety

Personal Life
I am married to a wonderful and supportive husband with one child of our own. We reside with her 4 high energy, hunting dogs. We also enjoy fostering dogs. Other things I enjoy are hiking, reading, and playing games!
I am an avid horse lover. Horses helped me build skills and make meaning from my own experience with trauma. Prior to my career in behavioral health, I studied equine science for one year. I then continued my equine learning by taking advantage of as many clinics as I could. I have now had several horses over the past 12 years and have taught lessons periodically over the past several years. I pursued my Masters specifically so one day, I could share the value of equine support by offering equine assisted psychotherapy.
